Finalists for the “Best CIO” award at the 2024 Byte TI Awards
Miguel Torres, Global CIO of the Prosegur Group
Prosegur’s IT department carried out the Business-Centered IT Transformation Project. This consisted of a comprehensive deployment of the transformation program that consisted of working on four aspects. On the one hand, Culture and organization with which IT teams were restructured and application and product areas were decentralized to implement a new IT service delivery model based on ITIL. This enabled the alignment of business and IT areas and accelerated innovation. The second part concerns the Infrastructure, Data and AI with which cloud infrastructure was deployed and obsolescence in on-premise infrastructure was reduced. Thanks to this, efficiency in resource consumption and greater resilience are achieved. In the applications section legacy applications were migrated to SaaS mode, thus accelerating the software development cycle, improving resilience and giving development teams resources to innovate. Finally, the Customer experience and service offering which has allowed Prosegur Group to increase sales of digital services by 30% and build customer loyalty.
Manuel Asenjo, CIO of Broseta Lawyers
In the world of technology, where innovation and collaboration are essential for progress, Manuel Asenjo, CIO of Broseta Abogados, has presented a project to the Byte TI 2024 Awards with which he intends to transform the technological management landscape in the legal sector in Spain: the creation of Legal IT, a CIO hub for Law Firms. As Asenjo states, “this initiative is a project that I want to redefine the way in which law firms interact and share knowledge. Vision and Objective of the Project. I conceived Legal IT as a meeting and collaboration space for technological leaders in the legal sector. The vision was always clear and bold: to foster a dynamic community where IT Directors, Technology Managers, CTOs, CISOs and other figures with technical responsibilities can share concerns, resolve doubts and explore new technological frontiers. This hub seeks to drive innovation and digital transformation in law firms, a sector historically reluctant to change. The CIO Hub has had a significant impact, improving operational efficiency, adoption of new technologies and resilience to technological challenges in law firms. It has served as a catalyst for digital transformation in an industry that is traditionally conservative in its approach to technology.

Juan Manuel García, CIO and CDO of Repsol
Within the framework of the Second Wave of the Digitalization Program (2023-2027), promoted by Juan Manuel García (CIO), Repsol is implementing generative artificial intelligence to boost its digital transformation and improve productivity. With the aim of extracting all the potential that this technology offers in a safe and responsible way, in June 2023 the Company launched a Generative AI Competence Center, a pioneering initiative in the European energy sector. One of its lines of work is the laboratory of new ways of working, whose objective is to take advantage of the new capabilities of generative AI to facilitate daily tasks. García, when presenting this project to the Byte TI 2024 Awards, explains that “the ambition is to be a company with increasingly digitalized employees, and it is essential to provide them with tools that enhance their capabilities and autonomy, such as generative AI copilots. As an example of this adaptation, a pilot test was launched with the Microsoft Copilot M365 tool to a sample of employees. The results of the study showed weekly time savings and improved performance in deliverables. The ambition is to scale massively and we have started with a significant number of employees with the idea of continuing to scale systematically to everyone and at a pace that allows us to ensure its adoption. As for the Copilot for Web tool, it has been extended to all employees, securing the solution to ensure that everyone can use it safely and with training so that they can take advantage of its benefits. Another line of work is the Digital Case Factory, where the objective is to identify and implement use cases based on generative AI that provide value to Repsol’s businesses and accelerate their transformation. Currently, more than 50 cases have been launched. In addition, the Company is exploiting generative AI to accelerate software development, another line of work that focuses on experimentation with GitHub Copilot.
David Vaquero, CTO of Nationale-Nederlanden
Nationale-Nederlanden’s IT department has been in charge of leading the implementation of a digital platform that allows the insurer to enter the health insurance ecosystem through a new value proposition that combines all the services of a complete health product with life insurance, which we call Health + Life. As stated by the finalist for the Byte TI Awards 2024, “all of this integrated with our health partners, BUPA, not only at the API platform level, but also in the user interface that allows our customers’ experience to reach a maximum level within the Nationale-Nederlanden ecosystem. Additionally, and as a novelty, we have developed a new client application with technological standards that provides a comprehensive experience with loyalty services, enriched notifications, a messaging environment, an instant chatbot, an advanced policy formalization system and, as an innovative element, a new authentication system that allows us to have SSO with strategic partners, where of course, the use of AI together with the automation and optimization of our processes such as an advanced call transcription system and summary generation for our call center allows us to optimize the time between calls and improve the day-to-day work of our agents. Lastly, the development of our “engineering culture” through which we seek to promote the professional growth of our engineers by favoring efforts in re/up-skilling in environments where innovation and creativity prevail together with cutting-edge technological development.
