Valve has a video game market in a handful. And although their digital store turned out to be a revolution, they are not equally colorful with every product. However, the company does not give up and apparently wants to try its hand at the virtual reality market again.

According to previous rumors and leaks, six years after the premiere of Valve Index, the company would be preparing for the premiere of its new headset of VR. What’s more: apparently God will not come to him at all, he knows how long to wait, because he would get to the stores this year! Equipment, whose code name is DECKARD, is to be (this time) an autonomous VR set, which will allow us to cut off the world and immerse in digital lands offering the highest class immersion, i.e. immersion.

Valve is working on a new VR set. This time autonomous?

According to leaks from a fairly trusted and repeated source, Gabe Follower on X (formerly Twitter), Valve is currently working on a new VR device. The main assumption of the new headset is to provide players to the best possible quality experience as possible, without having to connect it to an external device.

Rumors suggest that DECKARD will work on a modified version of Steamos, similar to the one that is the heart of their “portable PC”: Steam Deck. This may suggest that Valve is aimed at creating an independent ecosystem for VR devices, eliminating the need to use Windows or other external platforms. And considering what differences can be in the operation of games on the same equipment with Windows and Steamos: it would make a lot of sense. The reviewers testing the latest portable PC from Lenovo – Legion Go S. showed quite clearly

One of the questions that automatically arise in the context of this equipment is its price. As you know: VR headsets are not cheap. And for this they often need really strong equipment to be able to use them. However, the meta quest has proved that by serving an autonomous VR headset that does not cost a fortune, there is a chance to attract a wider group of recipients to the topic. Valve proved Steam deck that despite much better in terms of hardware competition – it is their equipment that rules on the market, offering an excellent quality / support for money. The information so far shows that Deckard was to be sold in a set with Ryo controllers for $ 1,200, i.e. at today’s course and direct conversion – for about PLN 4,750. And although this amount is not low, Valve would still sell it at the price below production costs. It would be their investment in the development of the subject of VR in the world of games

Valve has a snoring for more and more hardware segment. They have to go crazy for

It is clear that Valve felt blood and decides to follow the success of Steam Deck’s success. The company has also been in the hardware segment for years, but it is difficult to talk about some extremely spectacular successes in this field. Steam Deck, however, turned out to be a real hit and managed to get to the mainstream. The previous VR goggles from Valve, Index also had a faithful group of fans and were praised by users. However, they had to agree to a relatively high entry threshold requiring a strong PC, which would not be here. And if you actually manage to skip this aspect, who knows: maybe Valve will be able to attract a wider group to virtual reality?
