Today, AI adoption, digital sovereignty and cyber resilience are essential for digital organizations, especially in times of uncertainty.

For this reason, at the new annual edition of VMware Explore 2024 in Barcelona, the company reaffirmed its commitment with the announcement of new innovations in the advanced services of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), new alliances with partners and modernization programs, in order to accelerate the development of applications based on Generative AI, cybersecurity initiatives and the adoption of sovereign clouds.

“Broadcom is bringing private cloud everywhere with VMware Cloud Foundation,” said Krish Prasad, senior vice president and general manager of Broadcom’s VCF business. “Through a private cloud platform and a portfolio of advanced services that are ubiquitous, flexible and secure, we unlock the potential of AI in the enterprise to deliver new levels of organizational resilience and to support the privacy and digital sovereignty demands of customers all over the world.”

VMware Explore 2024 news in Barcelona

Among the new features this year at VMware Explore 2024 in Barcelona are:

  • Expanded data services capabilities for VMware Cloud Foundation. Broadcom has introduced a new advanced service, Tanzu Data Services for VMware Cloud Foundation, that will make it easier to deploy, manage and consume critical data services, enabling faster application delivery, greater data security and improved operational efficiency. These services offer a modern way to store, manage, and process data, addressing the challenges developers, infrastructure teams, and operators face when deploying microservices, serverless applications, and other modern application architectures at scale. In this way, VMware Tanzu Data Services will natively integrate with VCF to offer automated lifecycle management, including deployment, backups, bundling, security patches and updates of major open source data services, starting with PostgreSQL , MySQL, RabbitMQ and Valkey
  • End-to-end cyber resilience, security, and recovery with VMware Cloud Foundation. Another important announcement from the meeting was that VMware Live Recovery will support Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) as a target Isolated Recovery Environment (IRE) for VCF workloads, both for cyber attack and disaster recovery. This builds on the existing protection of VMware Live Recovery for GCVE sites, offering a secure and simplified experience to protect VMware workloads both on-premises and in the cloud using GCVE. “Building on Google Cloud’s support for VMware Cloud Foundation license portability, our expanded services now offer an additional, relevant option for customers to address their modern disaster recovery and cybersecurity needs,” said Mark Lohmeyer, vice president. and general manager of compute and AI infrastructure at Google Cloud. “Together, Broadcom and Google Cloud will continue to design, develop and deliver cutting-edge services that enable enterprises to run VMware workloads securely and efficiently on Google Cloud.”
  • Expanding the ecosystem of generative AI services with VMware Private AI. For its part, the company’s strategy for private AI focuses on privacy, control, simplicity, automation, resilience and the choice of AI hardware, models, software and services. Enabling organizations to invest in a secure AI platform that can quickly integrate new services as business or industry needs change. Broadcom has announced support for Microsoft’s Azure AI Video Indexer in VMware Private AI, which runs on top of VMware Cloud Foundation and Azure VMware Solution. Azure AI Video Indexer, an extension to Azure Arc, enables video and audio analytics and generative AI on devices located in data centers or at the edge. This announcement represents another step by Broadcom to accelerate innovation and reduce deployment time for AI projects on the VCF private cloud platform, enabling Azure AI Video Indexer to run anywhere businesses operate.
  • Free VCF licenses through VMUG Advantage for certified VCF professionals. VMUG is a global, independent customer-led organization created to maximize the use of solutions from VMware and its partners through knowledge sharing, training, collaboration and events. In a new benefit exclusive to VMware User Group (VMUG) members, Broadcom will offer VMUG Advantage subscribers a 50% discount on the VMware Certified Professional (VCP) and VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) certification exams. Upon successful completion of a VMware Cloud Foundation certification exam (VCP or VCAP), VMUG Advantage members will have access to a free personal use license of VMware Cloud Foundation for three years.
  • Continued expansion of the private cloud modernization program. Through expert advice, customized training, and innovative resources, Broadcom ensures that companies can transition to a private cloud with confidence, no matter what phase they are in. In this way, new investments have been announced in the Private Cloud Modernization Program, designed to help customers on their journey to the cloud with VMware Cloud Foundation.
  • New VMware Cloud Foundation Architect certification. This certification is specifically designed for professionals capable of conceptualizing and designing VCF solutions that meet both business and technical requirements. This certification not only validates an architect’s skills in designing systems with essential features such as availability, manageability, performance, recovery and security (AMPRS), but also emphasizes the importance of capacity planning, disaster recovery and scalability.
  • Private Cloud Optimization and Maturity Tool for Partners. This tool enables partners to help customers understand the technical and financial value of the private cloud and chart a path toward meeting their key goals and objectives. Partners gain access to the Private Cloud Framework, an assessment that provides a Private Cloud Maturity Index Score for their customers, along with practical recommendations from Broadcom. Using this model, partners can accelerate results for clients, deliver strategic account plans more quickly, and develop and offer new services.
  • VCSP Partners Support Digital Sovereignty. 50 VMware Cloud Service Providers (VCSPs) offer VCF-based sovereign cloud services, of which 30 are in the EMEA region. VMware Cloud Foundation includes specific capabilities that uniquely address sovereign cloud requirements, such as support for confidential computing with Intel and AMD chipsets (Confidential Computing), integrated data-at-rest protection with vSAN encryption, secure boot for ESXi hosts and vSphere virtual machine encryption, comprehensive data services and compliance monitoring, alerting and reporting with VCF operations.
