Where to look for cheap holidays? Comparison websites, last minute and pitfalls when booking
Finding cheap holidays online requires a bit of cleverness. Sometimes the best offer will be presented by a trip comparison website, sometimes by the official website of a travel agency, sometimes by an airline promotion, and sometimes only by planning the trip yourself with separate flight, hotel and transfer reservations. In 2026, looking for a cheap vacation is more about comparing several scenarios than clicking the first “last minute” banner.
Wakacje.pl, Travelplanet, Fly.pl – comparators of trips from travel agencies
If you are interested in classic holidays with a travel agency – flight, hotel, transfer and care of a resident or organizer – it is worth starting with large comparison websites such as Wakacje.pl, Travelplanet.pl or Fly.pl. Their biggest advantage is that they collect offers from many operators in one place, so you don’t have to check Itaka, Rainbow, TUI, Coral Travel, Grecosa, Exim Tours and other popular agencies separately.
Last minute – good, but not always the cheapest
Last minute can still be a way to get a cheaper trip, especially if you are flexible: you can fly from different airports, you don’t dream of one specific hotel and you are able to make a decision quickly. This solution works best when direction is secondary and price is the priority.
However, remember that last minute is not a guarantee of the lowest price. With popular destinations, long weekends and flights from large airports, the demand can be so high that prices do not drop at all. Sometimes it’s cheaper to book a trip in advance, especially if you want a specific hotel, family room or departure from a small airport.
First minute – sometimes cheaper than waiting
First minute, i.e. advance booking, makes sense when you care about a specific date, hotel, room standard or a trip with children. Early purchase usually gives you a wider choice of destinations and accommodation, and in some offers also a guarantee of price stability or additional benefits.
This won’t always be the cheapest option, but it often gives you more choice and less risk of being left with only expensive or impractical options. If you’re planning a vacation during the peak season, have school-age children, and can only fly during a specific week, waiting until the last minute may be more of a stress than a savings.
Independent research: Google Flights, Skyscanner and Booking
If you do not need a package of services from a travel agency, you can plan your holiday yourself: a flight found via Google Flights or Skyscanner, a hotel booked through Booking, Airbnb, Agoda or directly in a given place, local transfer separately and insurance on your own.
This model tends to be cheaper, especially for city breaks, sightseeing trips, trips to large cities and destinations with cheap flights. It also gives you more flexibility: you can choose an apartment instead of a hotel, fly for 5 instead of 7 days, or combine two cities in one trip.
Minus? You are responsible for everything yourself. If the flight is delayed, the hotel has no transfer, you have to buy additional luggage, and the plane lands at midnight at an airport 70 km from the city, the only person responsible for the inconvenience is you. With such a holiday, you have to count the full cost: flight, luggage, accommodation, transfer, local taxes, resort fees, insurance and possible transport to the airport.
Dynamic packaging is an increasingly popular model
More and more often, you can also come across dynamic offers, i.e. those in which the flight, hotel and other elements of the trip are selected from the currently available resources of various suppliers. For the customer, this means more choice and sometimes a better price, but also the need to carefully check who is responsible for individual elements of the trip.
If the offer consists of a flight, hotel and additional services, check whether you are purchasing a tourist event from one organizer or several related services from different entities. This is important because in the event of problems, it may decide who is responsible for the complaint, refund and on-site assistance.
Pepper, Fly4free and bargain groups
If you like hunting for bargains, it is worth following platforms such as Pepper, Fly4free, Wakacyjni Piraci, Secret Flying or travel groups on social media.
It’s a great source of inspiration, but rather for people who can afford to be flexible. The best deals disappear quickly, so reflexes are key when it comes to such websites. However, it is worth not buying only because of the price. A big advantage of Pepper and similar communities are comments – users often write whether luggage is included in the price, whether the hotel has good reviews, whether the airport is not far from the city and whether a similar route has recently been cheaper.
Directly at the travel agency
Comparison websites are convenient, but sometimes it is worth checking the offer directly on the operator’s website. Travel agencies have their own promotions, loyalty programs, discount codes and additional services. Sometimes the price will be the same as on the comparison site, but it will be easier to check full conditions, luggage, transfer and room type.
Direct purchase may also be more convenient when it comes to changes, surcharges, complaints and contact with the organizer. Such a trip will not always be the cheapest, but with a small difference in price it is still worth it, because we often buy peace of mind.
Be careful with the final price
When looking for a cheap vacation, it’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing things that don’t compare. Two hotels in Turkey may have a similar price, but one has all-inclusive, transfers and checked luggage, and the other only has breakfast, a flight from an airport on the other side of Poland and a surcharge for a large suitcase. Similarly with city breaks: a cheap flight may mean expensive accommodation, expensive transfers or arrival in the middle of the night. Before booking, carefully check the costs of things such as:
- luggage;
- transfer;
- food;
- flight times;
- access from the airport;
and also:
- room type;
- local fees;
- cancellation and change policies;
- hotel reviews from several sources;
- and insurance conditions.
Only after such verification it is known whether the offer is really cheap.
