…or a pensioner, because this unusual phone stylized as a Nokia 2660 Flip has a very outdated specification.
Barbie was a hit last summer and today the unusual comedy starring Margot Robbie doesn’t stir up such emotions, but there is one – a bit late – electronics manufacturer that has decided to contribute to the doll craze. And not just any, because we’re talking about a functional smartphone, stylized as a Barbie gadget. The only question is, why?
Barbiephone coming this month
Nokia is theoretically dead, although it is still owned by HMD Global. The manufacturer decided to partner with Mattle (owner of Barbie) to create a smartphone under the patronage of the iconic toy brand, which would probably have caused a sensation last year. The first leaks about it appeared during the Mobile World Congress conference in February, but they were limited to a photo of Barbie holding a flip phone resembling the old Nokia 2660 Flip.
Now the 2660 Flip has an official release date and we know a lot more about it. It will be available in – of course – pink, and will feature two screens; a 2.8-inch main screen and a 1.77-inch external screen. There’s room for a stunning 0.3-megapixel camera and a 1450 mAh battery. However, there’s Bluetooth 4.2 support, and 128 MB of internal memory is reserved for files. Before you start laughing, let me add that the phone will have an internet connection, so it’s not such an archaic device. There’s no doubt about it though – it’s a technological curiosity that will probably only find use in the hands of a retiree or someone who wants to cut themselves off from social media.
More details to come later this month, as the Barbie phone will debut on August 28.
