Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) has signed an agreement with Swiss4, a Swiss financial company, to provide metal payment cards to its premium customers. With this initiative, Swiss4 becomes the first entity in Switzerland to offer a metal Mastercard debit card.

These new metal cards stand out for their elegant design and allow users to choose not to have the numbers embossed, thus increasing discretion and security. In addition, clients will have access to advanced financial services, such as 24/7 advice, insurance and an application for personalized management of their finances.

“Payment cards are progressively becoming a lifestyle product. Customers in the premium segment seek individuality and exclusivity in all areas of life and banks can differentiate themselves with high-quality payment cards. Furthermore, – Kähkönen concludes –, combined with bonus or loyalty programs, they become a statement of everyday and pleasant lifestyle for their users,” says Mikko Kähkönen, head of the payment card portfolio at G+D.

G+D points out that payment cards are a crucial point of contact between financial institutions and their customers. Beyond their function as a means of payment, these cards can symbolize stability and value due to their weight, texture, and visual appeal. This type of card not only increases its use among customers, but also attracts new market segments and strengthens user loyalty.

The unique nature of these cards is driving rapid growth in the global metal card market, with demand projected to increase from 36 million cards issued in 2022 to 85 million in 2028.
