Every day, millions of transactions, interactions and decisions make it possible for Nestlé products to reach consumers around the world. Behind those moments is a platform that is rarely seen, but that is critical: the SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system, the digital core that integrates the company’s manufacturing, sales, supply chain and financial processes in a single environment.

Updating an ERP of this magnitude is not a minor operation. It involves coordinating tens of thousands of users, maintaining the productive continuity of factories and ensuring the integrity of financial information throughout the transition. It’s like replacing an airport control tower without any plane losing its route or schedule: you can prepare for months, but you only have one chance.

In May 2026, Nestlé completed a key milestone of its digital transformation: the successful upgrade to SAP S/4HANA across its European businesses, following the first major upgrade in the AOA (Asia-Oceania-Africa) region in August 2025. This achievement strengthens the company’s digital core and lays the foundation for faster insights, more efficient processes and the next generation of AI-enabled capabilities.

Keys to the milestone

  • The largest SAP upgrade to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition made to date, according to Nestlé’s external communication.
  • 50,000 Nestlé employees in 35 European countries are already benefiting from the new capabilities, including Spain, with its factories and operations fully integrated into the new environment.
  • A change executed in just over 20 hours, without interrupting the business and with normal operations from day one.
  • A reach that covers 17 markets and global headquarters, 96 factories and 3 shared service centers.
  • A digital backbone that enables AI and automation on a global scale, for faster, better-informed decisions and processes.

When the first factory was restarted and the first transaction was executed in the new system, the team was able to confirm that the transition was proceeding as planned. These moments reflect the preparation, coordination and discipline necessary to execute a transformation of this scale.

Beyond the technology, true pride is in the hundreds of people and partners who have worked as a single team, across geographies and time zones, with discipline, collaboration and commitment. It is fair to highlight this achievement, because it represents the type of quiet, high-impact project that rarely makes headlines.

And although this is a moment to celebrate, the journey continues: the focus now turns to the last phase of the ERP update in the Americas region.
