Synology has released DiskStation Manager (DSM) version 7.2.2. This update improves system stability by fixing issues that could interfere with system operation and increases efficiency in managing multimedia files through a distributed approach.
“We are committed to improving the user experience with each update,” said Ivan Gento Pariente, Regional Marketing Manager. “In DSM 7.2.2, we have conducted a thorough analysis of key subsystems in data management, dedicating significant resources to redesign DSM, the support packages and mobile applications, making them more scalable and reliable.”
Synology DSM 7.2.2: More Robust Enterprise Platform
DSM 7.2.2 release introduces significant improvements to system reliability. Full system restore from C2 Storage using Hyper Backup is now four times faster, significantly reducing operational recovery time (RTO).
Additionally, Hybrid Share folders and data transfers are now more resilient against unexpected power interruptions on servers. Single sign-on (SSO) availability has also been improved through increased support for Entra ID, formerly known as Azure Active Directory.
This update increases data recovery speed, strengthens security and optimizes performance in multimedia management, adapting to the most demanding business needs.
Improvements in data security
DSM 7.2.2 also strengthens data security. The new update enhances the file system’s capabilities to automatically correct bitflip errors and improves the reliability of adaptive multi-factor authentication. In addition, the security of immutable snapshots has been increased by resolving a vulnerability that allowed administrators to unlock snapshots by manually modifying their attributes.
Optimizing media processing
With DSM 7.2.2, a strategy is implemented that delegates media processing to clients and mobile devices, leveraging their media decoding and encoding capabilities to decrease the load on server resources. By installing Synology Image Assistant Extension and the desktop app, users can enjoy 2.5x faster thumbnail processing compared to server-based processing. This performance improvement becomes even more evident with a higher number of concurrent users.
