Ordinary tap water or filtered water? Or maybe something else? We check what water is best suited for sodastream, which affects the taste and how to avoid problems with the device and bottles.

What water to pour into sodastream?

Whoever bought Sodastream knows that the first attempts to gay water are surprising. Some are delighted, others turn their nose that “something is wrong with taste.” The truth is that everything starts with the water itself. Although the device can handle almost everyone, not everyone tastes good after CO2 saturation. In this article, we dispel doubts: what water should be poured into sodastream and what to avoid.

Tap water – is it a good idea?

Let’s start with the most obvious source – tap water. In most Polish cities, the quality of water from the network is really good today. In Łódź, for example, the entire promotional campaign was launched under the slogan “Łódź water the best” to encourage drinking and calm everyone that tap water is safe.

However, water water is uneven – in some regions it is soft, in others hard and clearly “limestone”. And it is this taste (or rather a taste) that can come to the fore after gassing. If after the first attempts you find that you are not playing something, it is not necessarily about the device itself – perhaps your tapmone tastes in a specific way and it will be difficult to change.

Filter jug – golden mean

It is worth betting on a good filter jug. This is not a big expense, and filtered water is often the best compromise between comfort and quality. The filter allows you to get rid of part of chlorine, metals and possible pollutants from pipes, which translates into a better taste – not only after gassing. It is also the most common solution among Sodastream users – and for a reason. The water after the filter is cleaner, better “takes” carbon dioxide, and the whole drink has a more neutral flavor profile. There is one more plus – you do not generate plastic, you do not carry the welds, and the Sodastream bottles will be grateful to you – because less sediment is a lower risk of discoloration or an unpleasant smell.

At this point I could still offer mineral or spring water as a solution that can be used in combination with Sodastream, but I have the impression that we are not buying a saturator to continue to reach for bottles from the store.

Cold water = better bubbles

Apparently, using cold water makes a big difference for some. Not summer, not “from the countertop”, but well chilled – preferably from the fridge. Why? From a physical point of view, cold water dissolves gas better. In practice, this means that with the same number of “piss” you have more bubbles, stronger nagasy and better taste. For this, the drink is immediately suitable for drinking and you do not have to wait for it to cool or add ice.

What to avoid – the most common mistakes

Not every water is suitable for sodastream.

  • Do not gas boiling water or hot water – it’s not only ineffective, but it can also damage the bottle.
  • Avoid flavored water or with additives – if it has sugar, juice or aromas, it is not enough that it can explode while gassing, it can also negatively affect the device itself.
  • Do not use heavily mineralized water – it can leave a sediment in a bottle and change the taste of the drink to more, “metallic”.

Although water is the main topic, it is worth mentioning the bottles. The manufacturer recommends using original Sodastream bottles. They are made of high pressure resistant materials and safe for health.

What is best to pour into Sodastream?

If you care about taste and comfort, the golden remedy is filtered tap water – cheap, without plastic and well suited for gassing. Well chilled will allow you to create a drink that does not differ from store “bubbles”. Bottled water? It can be if you choose a low -mineralized version. The question is whether this is not somewhat contrary to the idea of gassing water at home. Water straight from the tap? By all means, if you live in a place where it has a good taste.
